Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests They're also particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.
It's still a great deal for those whose office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has strong suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, though it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.
This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and set up zones using the app that is well-designed. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to pull back and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot hoover and mop vacuum/mop to sweep the entire house with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a decent cleaning job on different flooring and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including certain area rug. This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky units of the competition. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however it's going to cost you more and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on how dirty they are.
For larger houses it's recommended to choose one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and an auto vacuum and mop-emptying washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to set up the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app also provides access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it's more likely to be caught in low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we have examined. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
