1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have examined. They are equipped with motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they employ intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also come with a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned up quickly.
Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.
Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad for a dry one in minutes.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also has strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum cleaner reviews vacuum/mop to complete the entire house with the battery at 66 percent left. It also did a good job of cleaning a mix of rooms and floors with various flooring types, such as some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxes This mop and robot vacuum best vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our reviews. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live some more volume and a little more cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should delight most.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot cleaner with mop vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, as well as washes and dries the mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also comes with a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty those areas are.
If you own a larger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning robot mop and vacuum modes. This lets you tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. Also a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is great for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might think from its price. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with an impressive 8000 Pascal suction as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. And you can set up a spot cleaning that thoroughly cleans a particular area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that is less intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
