The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and will leave your floors clean. Its low cost and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detection) are pluses.

Be sure to regularly check your robot's brushes for hair tangled and large debris, and wash them when required. Some models will automatically empty their onboard dustbin into a larger bin at the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have tested. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobot models (including the top pick) they employ intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests They're also particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good deal particularly if your office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also quiet and operates while you are at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. If you need to, the mopping pad can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a good cleaning job on a variety of flooring and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuums that mop vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the competition. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robot automatic vacuum and mop robot/mop to score 100% in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some additional cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on the degree of dirt they tend to be.

If you own a larger home, you should consider choosing a model that has the option of cleaning zones or spots. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have large furniture. Additionally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app also provides access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It features an impressive 8000 Pascal suction as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It does a good job vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
