Upgrades can increase the value of weapons, armors and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be put into weapons, armor, and trinkets in order to provide an additional stat boost or effect while they're in use. They can be acquired through crafting, buying from vendors trading or looting. Some upgrades also have specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be applied to equipment that has a slot. The item level upgrade must be at least upgraded to blue level before the component can be applied. In contrast to other mods components can only be used one time; they can't be used multiple times or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component that is that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment and some of the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and enrichments can be retrieved by salvaging ascended gear or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may include a suffix or prefix, modifying the name of the equipment with which it is used (for examplefor example 'Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of the equipment that require the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than would be required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can alter the attack or defense attributes of a weapon or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist, these upgrades can be made at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades can be obtained by purchasing them in the cash shop, or by collecting them from enemies when upgrading other equipment.

The player can get the maximum of five boost upgrades at one time; each upgrade increases the probability that a better-quality version of the item will be available during the next reset. This gives players an incentive to upgrade their gear even when they're not sure how much it will be improved after a reset.

If a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process can be costly, and there is a substantial risk that the item may be obsolete or even break when it fails; a failure to upgrade can cause the destruction of the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to decrease or eliminate the chance of failure. Some upgrades also offer the player a bonus if they are they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to enhance the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Glyphs boost the power of nodes within a radius, which includes any existing attaches. Glyphs can be upgraded in a variety of ways, and we recommend getting them up to level 15 as soon as you can.

Leveling

The item upgrading system allows players to improve the effectiveness of certain items by placing upgraded components in them. This is also known as "upping". Every upgradeable item is assigned a level that determines the final statistics. Upgraded items may be leveled up to a maximum of 385. Each item level requires different components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or purchased from some NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed earns some Technology Points. These points can be used to level up the item, and when enough are earned, the upgrade can be claimed and the additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When an individual player improves an item it is replaced by a new item. The same armor will be upgraded to a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item level upgrade also has its own set of bonuses. This can be a disadvantage, as it can make the item more expensive if you do not require it.

If the player has enough tokens, they can roll the upgrade of their item. The item will be replaced with a brand new one that is based on a level 1 base and totally different bonuses. This is useful for certain items, but it's not something that should be repeated often, as it can use up a lot of resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled many times to increase their value, giving players the ability to alter their gear. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it provides a buff if the player continuously enters or exits water. The item can be upgraded many times by increasing the maximum roll every time by 10 increments. This item is very valuable in PvP. A perfectly rolled version can be worth up to 50x the value of the non-upgraded version.

Requirements

Item upgrading allows players to upgrade the level of their equippable equipment--armor, weapons, and trinkets over ilvl 385 by presenting the appropriate items and currencies to an item upgrader NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces also boost the defense of the base set and weapon upgrades items increase the damage they deal as well as the required strength and dexterity.

Each item can be upgraded up to five times, with the exception for hero gear, which can be upgraded eight times. Every time you upgrade an item, it is given the chance to fail. The failure rate increases the more you exceed the maximum amount of upgrades.
