Upgrades can increase the value of armors, weapons and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as crit chance and PvE Damage.

Components
Upgrade components can be incorporated into weapons, armor and trinkets to give them a boost in stats or an extra effect. They can be acquired through crafting, purchasing from vendors trading or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can only be used on equipment with a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to a blue level before the component can be used. In contrast to other mods components can only be used once and cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are kind of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascended equipment, as well other items that are not ascended. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

The process of upgrading an item level upgrade can be costly and it is likely that the item will be obsolete, or even break, if the upgrade fails. Glyphs

When an individual player upgrades an item the original item will be replaced with the new item. This means that the same piece of armor will be transformed into a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will have its own set bonus. This could be a problem because it can cause the item to become more expensive, even if you don't need it.
Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, if the player has enough reroll tokens to do so. The item upgrader kit will be replaced by the same item upgrader, but it has a base of level 1 and completely different bonuses. This can be useful however it should not be repeated often since it could waste resources.
Certain upgrades can be rerolled many times to increase their value, allows the player to modify their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants an increase in power if the player continuously enters or exits the water. The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is determined by its rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The upgrade cost for non-premium items is equal to the base value of the upgrade. For example, a common equipment item might have 5 upgrades, each costing 25,600 Technology Points and 4x Quality Improvement Chance--whereas hero grade items will have a much lower cost for each additional upgrade.
Premium items have different requirements for upgrading as compared to standard equipment, for instance, they might require fewer sowels but more minerals and erons.
