How to Replace an replacement audi keys G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can trigger spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumped chain link in the upper timing chain. However the code will not appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It's a bit tricky to test because there are various pins on the connector, and they all have different functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully operational, it should be reading about 1000 ohms. If you're having issues with this part, check for signs of coolant or oil in the connector audi a1 car key bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a massive drop in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, three were drenched with gazoline the fourth was dry. I put tissue over each hole in the injector and when I start the engine without sparks, the three with gazoline jump out. The fourth one remains closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start if the G28 is not plugged in and is running fine when it is plugged in, but still has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit is showing 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I'm not certain what to do, as i think i've pretty much ruled out everything else. However, i'm afraid that I might have missed something. Please let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is simple to test them - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines must know both the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of fuel injectors, etc. To do this, it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you encounter a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could cause an engine shutdown.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox and a gearbox which shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire in gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you notice any of these symptoms. They're inexpensive and easy to locate especially in the case of a Bosch model like ours. Alternately, GM's version this part would be an excellent choice.

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a myriad of issues in your car. It's an essential component of the Audi Tt Key Replacement's transmission since it relays information to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is rotating. This sensor could cause the transmission to malfunction and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49, via a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this signal to regulate fuel and boost, and also timig. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer. You can also check continuity between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and Audi replacement key the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these points. This is a typical part across the audi a3 key fob 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best ones could be available in wrecking yards.
