20 Tools That Will Make You Better At Robot Vac
Top Rated robot vacuum deals Vacuums
A robot vacuum is able to keep the floors clean enough to cut down on the frequency you need to manually vacuum. Choose a robot vacuum that is well-trained in navigation, has the ability to clean corners and stairs, and that has an enormous bin that only needs to be emptied periodically.
There are also models that clean and charge on their own, a feature that may be important for people with pets or children. Many of the best performers in our tests have good obstacles to avoid.
1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The i3+ EVO is identical to its sibling, the i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ comes with self-emptying capabilities. This makes the i3+ a great option for those looking for a hands-off, fully automated vacuum cleaning experience, but aren't afraid of manually emptying their robot vacuum cleaner on sale's dustbin as it gets full.
Both robots are proficient in removing dirt and dust particles on floors and carpets, and they can easily move around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates intelligent maps of your home that help the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ doesn't have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or other top robot vacuum cleaner-rated robots we have test. It could get stuck on power cords and socks, and may have trouble navigating between different surfaces, like rug and hardwood.
iRobot recommends clearing areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, and include putting away any toys or clutter it may encounter. It is also recommended to keep the filters and dust bin clean to prevent them from becoming clogged. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is filled or the battery is depleted, it returns to its docking station and automatically empties its dirt into the station's external dustbin and then resumes cleaning where it left off. The i3+ EVO's battery lasts for approximately an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes about three hours to fully recharge.
2. Roomba by iRobot
The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line, and it comes with the latest technology. It is self-charging and self-navigating. But the most important feature is its self-emptying bin. This eliminates the need for routine maintenance.
The Roomba I7+ can make rooms more efficient maps using Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning jobs, and you can direct your robot using the app or by voice.
In our testing the i7+ performed quicker and more maneuverable than our second-placed model and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface kinds, including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy the dust bin is self-emptying, which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and cuts down on the cost of maintenance.
We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning session, move itself around the room and sweep the area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. Once connected, we were able to give the i7+ voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options for managing the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
In a world of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model is an automobile. It's powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in a majority of homes, but it is also compact enough to fit on a bookcase or coffee table.
The V10 is powered by a 7-cell, high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide fade-free power for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system traps allergens, then releases cleaner air into your home. The specialized head uses rigid nylon bristles that penetrate deep into carpets and pick up large particles or fine dust. It comes with three suction modes to match the task being performed. It can quickly switch from automatic floor cleaners vacuum to handheld vacuum and vice versa.
This model also has an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours, and gives users an easy access to two attachments as well as the wand clip. This is a huge improvement over earlier Dysons models, which require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.
The biggest issue with the V10 is its short run time. Its claims on the market that it can last up to 60 minutes of running time are not true, as CR's testing shows. This is a typical and not a remarkable time for an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. It's still enough time to vacuum the majority of an average-sized house however, it's not enough to cover every area (though a second run-through usually can be effective). That's not to say this model isn't a good choice: It's lighter and maneuverable than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming efficiency is better on carpets with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums The 694 is an affordable model that's a great choice for people who don't want to spend too much money on a robot. It's capable of sucking up most types of debris and sizes during our tests, and often goes over the same areas many times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front design allows it to reach corners and edges of walls.
Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and navigate your home. It's not equipped with the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, such as our top Rated robot vacuum picks, the i3+EVO and J7+ Series. Because of this, it may get stuck on things like phone cords and low furniture, and it frequently will run out of battery before returning to its home base.
The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in many ways because it has fewer parts that need regular cleaning and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, has more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in maneuvering itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and can charge faster.
The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery longevity than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries strips that can be controlled with your smartphone's voice assistance. It is also more robust, has a more powerful motor, and is more effective on floors with low pile and bare.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a well-known brand in home electronics. It's not surprising that they are also among the top manufacturers of robot vacuums and mop. Their Jet Bot AI+ is equipped with cutting-edge onboard technology for navigation and obstacles avoidance.
The app offers a wide range of options to customize your robotic cleaner. This includes mopping levels, virtual barriers and behavior adjustments, docking frequency settings and much more. The app is simple to learn and use, just like other Samsung devices.
In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors. It removed 86% of dog hair (on carpet). It did not do well in avoiding taller objects like socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's priced higher than other models we've tested, and this could be a problem for some buyers.
The app allows you to access the onboard camera of the smart vacuum. You can also set up live streaming from the robot's cleaning zone. This feature allows you to check in on pets or the kids if you're away from home. The filter and the dustbin can be washed for an easy, quick clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ also comes with a clean station that's self-emptying and helps keep the robot's dustbin clean and optimizes its suction power for each cleaning run.
6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum
In contrast to other robotic vacuums which are designed for both hard floors and carpets, Black and Decker robots are specifically designed for hard floors. They have a wider cleaning path as well as a large dust bin that can hold 2X more debris than the competition to keep the cleaning area free of debris for the longest period of time. They also have two side sweepers to clean along edges and corners. The POWERSERIES Extreme model also comes with AutoSense technology, which can tell the presence of dirt on surfaces or embedded dirt and then automatically adjusts the power level. The vacuum also has an app that allows users to see the virtual map, manage functions, and set schedules. You can also check the status of the vacuum and then send it to the dock for charging with the press of a single button. The app lets you customize the LED lights on the top of the vacuum to determine where it is focused or if it has gotten stuck.
The app allows you to steer the robot manually when needed. For example, my living room rug has a darkly colored border that can make it difficult for other robots I've tested. The HRV 425BL however, continued to move across the border, without notifying the edge. The ability to program a weekly cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving advantage.
