Both robots are adept at cleaning up surface debris from carpets and hard floors, and they're excellent at maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes a smart maps of your home to assist the i3+ to navigate and clean efficiently. The i3+ isn't able to feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or other top-rated robots we tested. It can be stuck on power cords and socks and have difficulty navigating between different surfaces like hardwood and rug.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, and include clearing out any toys or clutter it may encounter. It's also a good idea to keep the dust bin and filter clean so that they do not become blocked by dirt. The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, which lets it identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and direct your cheap robot vacuum by voice or via the app.

In our testing the i7+ performed faster and more maneuverable than our runner-up, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surface types, including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin that removes major maintenance sources and reduces recurring cost.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning routines, move itself around the room, and even vacuum the area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. We were able, once connected, to speak commands to the i7+, like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and monitoring the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is a sports car in a world of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum for most households and can fit perfectly next to the table for a coffee or shelves that you can spin around like the magic tool.

The V10 is powered with a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that can provide energy that lasts for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system captures allergens and expels cleaner air back into your home. The cleaning head is specially designed to drive stiff nylon bristles deep into carpets to trap large dust and crumbs. It comes with three suction settings to suit the task that is being completed. It swiftly switches from handheld vacuum to floor vacuum, and then back to floor.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it lacks the mapping capabilities of more sophisticated models like our top choices, the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. It is prone to getting stuck on cords for phones or furniture that is low and often runs out of power before returning to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in most respects, as it has fewer parts that need regular cleaning and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower recurring costs, has more advanced automation capabilities and is better at maneuvering itself. It also has a larger dustbin and is charged faster.
