Upgrades can increase the value of armors, weapons and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as Crit chance and PvE Damage.

The cost of upgrading an item increases as it reaches the current level of the item. The cost rises with item's level.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons and trinkets to provide an extra stat boost or effect when they're used. They can be acquired through crafting, buying from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment with a slot for them. The item must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level in order for the component to be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied only once. They are not able to be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component that is that is used to upgrade non-amulet ascended or legendary equipment and some of the items that are not ascending back. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade can have a prefix or suffix that alters the name of the item to which it is applied (for instance 'Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, which lets players to create stronger versions using fewer upgrade crystals than they need to reach the same level using standard methods.

A boost upgrade can modify the attack or defense attributes of a weapon or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist These upgrades can be made at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades are available for purchase them from the cash shop or obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

These points can be used to leveling up an item. Once enough points are earned you'll be able to claim the upgrade and get its extra bonuses.

When a player upgrade the equipment they have the original item is replaced by the new item. The same armor will receive an weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will also come with a bonus of its own. This can be a downside in that the item could become more expensive even if you don't require it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled if the player has enough reroll tokens to be able to do so. This causes the item upgrading to be traded for a new one, which will come with an initial level and a totally different set of extra bonuses. This is a good idea, but should not be used frequently as it can be a waste of resources.
