WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in certain statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

The more modernized gear generally has a greater value for trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item upgrading will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the item level, however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new gear. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to level up weapons tools, armor, and other items. They are purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show the Item Level Upgrade's next upgrade level, when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item upgrader kit, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only accessible through a variety means. This is both a benefit as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a particular level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading additional items to that level will be less expensive, even if they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is reduced too, but it is only available once certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

Players have several options for upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item upgrade level upgrades. Crests are a crucial part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment of a particular rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader for the item like Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it will bring some modifications to the upgrade process. For example, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests wisely, as they are only used for one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the best equipment you have and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning on making. This is especially true for items like rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which will only be able to avail the account-wide discount if all slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
