We contacted Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect and founder of LS Projects - for her suggestions on how to pick the best one. We looked at the storage capacity, layout, and energy efficiency among other aspects.

Like its name implies, GE’s Profile series is aimed at those who wish to integrate cutting-edge features in their kitchen. This refrigerator is packed with these, from an inside-the-door Keurig K-cup coffee maker to a smart water dispenser. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. The refrigerator is expensive and I expected more.
Other than that however, this refrigerator is a fantastic choice. It has a large freezer compartment that is not common for counter-depth french door fridge mitsubishi-door refrigerators. It also has a large capacity for frozen food, which is a big difference from other models.
The fridge comes with 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment is 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is on par for a French door fridge that costs this much. It has a decent-sized refrigerator with an ice maker in the left door. However it's not the most spacious one I've seen.
You can alter the shelves in both compartments to create a the perfect storage solution. The GE PYE22PYNFS's design for the interior is good-looking, too. Its LED lighting is a nice addition and the inside storage bins have an additional shelf that folds down to allow you to store items that are tall. The drawers are equipped with temperature controls, so you can set them for Beverage, Meat or Deli settings. The drawers are easy to open and close however I found the plastic's textured coatings a bit hard on my fingers.
The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator comes with the complete set of features you'd expect from a fridge in this price range, including Wi-Fi and app support via GE's SmartHQ software. The app, which is available for iOS and Android devices can let you control your fridge from anywhere in the world, and offers a ton of customization options. It will also send you notifications when the door is left unlocked as well as when the fridge or freezer needs to be defrosted, and when the filter needs to be changed.
It is nice it GE PYE22PYNFS had Precise Fill, an option available in a handful of GE refrigerators that allows users to choose how many cups they want to dispense. It also has a countdown on the fridge display to display how much water you have remaining, but that's not as helpful as Precise Fill.
Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
Designed to look like a seamless part of your kitchen, Bosch's French-door refrigerator is an eye-catching piece. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a vegetable compartment to keep vegetables and fruits fresher for longer and has dual compressors for the best food preservation. The ice maker is one of the top we've tested and produces pyramid-shaped Ice with low water consumption. This fridge is the perfect choice for single household or kitchenettes who want a built-in look and top-of-the-line food preservation.
This refrigerator was the highest-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators test, for various reasons. The temperature of the freezer remained stable at just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit, and never fluctuating more than a fraction a degree--this is key in preventing freezing burn. The fridge section of the refrigerator also performed well. It reached the initial temperature set within an hour and remained at the temperature throughout our tests.
Bosch has a reputation for top-of-the-line appliances and appliances, so it's not a surprise that this counter depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance that has the option of connecting to your home Wi-Fi and Bosch's Home Connect platform. This app allows you to monitor and control your refrigerator remotely on your tablet or smartphone. The refrigerator is expensive, but it comes with excellent features and functionality for the price.
It's important to understand the limitations of your fridge. You may need to get creative with tall items because the fridge has a small shelf space. The shelves aren't spillproof and can easily be damaged or stained by sharp items. It is easy to take out the trays in the fridge, but be sure to clean them frequently to prevent mold growth.

The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth fridge is a great choice for those who need a lot of space in the space of a compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. However, while the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it does not necessarily enhance the overall performance of the refrigerator. In fact it took a bit longer to defrost and chill foods in this fridge than some of the others we tested. This could be due to its larger capacity.
The doors are a different issue with this refrigerator. The handles with a sunken design let shorter people open them from the bottom. However, taller people still struggle to close them without slamming. It would have been better if these had front-mounted handles.
The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a ideal option for those looking to combine the advantages of a French-door fridge's aesthetics with a more efficient layout. Its capacity is superior for a counter-depth model and it cools evenly and has a great layout. It's also less expensive than the best counter-depth refrigerator with an ice maker, which can make it a popular choice.

It's a basic design that's not as striking in appearance like some of the competitors but it does have enough features that make it a great pick. Another great feature is the "Chill Drawer" that sits over the two crisper bins. The drawer allows you to divert a portion of the refrigerator's cooling power directly into this area, meaning you can store foods that need extra attention. I've found that the generic settings work better than the specific ones.
During my tests, I found that the temperatures in the refrigerator were fairly consistent in various parts of the refrigerator. Temperatures at the top and bottom of the fridge did not vary much from 38 degrees, and even the middle of the fridge was within a degree of 36. This is a great performance, but it doesn't quite rank among the best in our rankings.
This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also combine this fridge with a smart thermometer to get more precise measurements of your fridge's temperature.
The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is constructed of grey-bodied stainless steel that has a "smudge-proof" finish. It does an excellent job of removing streaks and fingerprints even when compared with glossier stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tested.
