Upgrades to items allow players to increase the gear score of an item to 700 and also add a final perk. Items can be upgraded by having them in inventory before heading to the kiln.

Certain items are worth upgrading because of their unique stats. (For instance, a perfectly roll breakpoint armor is used in melee PvP). Other items, like weapons aren't changed much after an upgrade and aren't worth the effort.

Weapons

Upgrades to weapons will also alter the stats of the base. This is usually a positive thing, but it can also have negative effects. For items that are only used in a specific build (Whistant's shield for FB sorcs, for instance), upgrading them may make them unusable unless you happen to have an extremely fortunate roll.

Armor items can be upgraded to increase their stats. This will increase the defense of a chest or helm while belts and gloves can boost their strength and agility. Armor has a rerolling feature for its Enhanced Defense%. This means that it is able to roll down to a lower value.

The upgrade template for a weapon shows the new stats it will gain upon upgrading and their relative values. This means that the weapon will gain 3% attack damage if it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. The 3% difference does not mean that the weapon will be hit 3 times less, as it is an absolute number.

Rerolling a weapon is possible by pressing the green button within the item menu, using the circling arrows. This will roll the item level upgrade and change its stats, however, it will not reset the weapon's level nor connect to the status of your account.

Armor

A few tweaks to your armor can make an enormous difference in your ability to survive. Certain sets provide massive boosts to poison or curse, fire, and magic resistance, which can make the journey through difficult terrain a breeze. You can't upgrade your armor the same as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior, you should focus on upgrading your armor to increase physical strength or the power of spells. You should also save your armor upgrades to upgrade the armor you will still be wearing at the end of the story, such as the Ring of Lightning, Spectral Shield or the mask you'll wear in the final boss fight The Monter Parts Merchant Mask.

By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town, you can unlock some perks on your armor. Potions

The upgrade of a trinket can be an economical alternative to buying new ones. It can be done by players for less than 12 tokens. The new trinket will come with the same base ilvl as old one, and will come with an additional 1% upgrade bonus.

When the old Trinkets are no longer usable they can be upgraded. This allows a player to increase both their power and value over time. They can also be traded between players and are a popular alternative to gold.

In general players should make upgrades to their highest priority items first. This means that the top-in slot items for each class are upgraded first before their secondary gear, and then other pieces of equipment that won't replace anytime soon (such as an earring or a cloak). It is also important to consider your class's preferred stats when selecting which items to upgrade. If Haste and Crit are two of the most important stats for a tank player then they should consider upgrading their helm, chest and shoulders.

Trinkets can be upgraded to a higher ilvl after they no longer have value and the new trinket will receive an additional upgrade bonus of 1. Re-upgrading will destroy the trinket unless it can be salvaged with the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or a salvage tool. This makes upgrading trinkets more expensive than other upgrades, however it is still cheaper than buying an entirely new trinket.
