Why Do So Many People Want To Know About Three Wheeled Buggies
Three Wheeled Buggies
If you're seeking a buggy to run around in or a nifty stroller to tackle neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies are great for mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver, even in tight places.
For an easy ride, opt for a pram fitted with air-filled tyres and look for models with a 360deg front swivel wheel. They are, however, susceptible, to punctures. Make sure you have an emergency repair kit.
Sturdy frame
Figures have just been released that show that the three-wheeled buggie which was a symbol of the decade of more money than sanity - is in steep decline. Four-wheelers have replaced them, and are more versatile and easier to drive while still looking fashionable.
The principle is that the larger the wheels, the easier it will be for your buggy to deal with bumpy ground and rough pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back also makes it easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tested this buggy with an infant as well as a child who was 3 wheel stroller with infant car seat years old and found it to be very robust. It handled cobbles, grass and rough pavements as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. She said that it felt sturdy to push, and very solid on difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need occasional pumping) have suspension built-in which was extremely comfortable for my kids.
Another thing to consider is the seat size and shape. It is important for the seat to be large enough to allow your child to be comfortable and to allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies offer the option of lying flat, which allows your child to lie flat and face you, while other buggies only allow a parent-facing one.
An excellent option for taking on off-road and muddy trails is the Roma Atlas. This buggy is suitable for a single child as early as birth, and can be adapted to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for infants and toddlers from birth until age 4, and comes with a bumper, raincover, an improved 5-point harness, and a huge cushioned seat. Storage options are also a plus with a large storage basket and zip pockets on the hood and an extra pouch on the rear of the seat unit.
Larger wheels
Larger wheels mean your buggy will have more stability on rough terrain - ideal for off-road buggies. In addition, they allow you to maneuver the pushchair through narrow spaces. Certain three-wheeled buggies have rotating wheels at the front to help you navigate tight corners. Others are designed to run and have fixed wheels that lock to provide increased speed and stability. This is especially useful when you bump against the kerb or a tree. The front wheel will be lifted slightly to keep it from hitting it.
Many 3 wheel pushchairs feature air-filled tyres, which means they can be used on many different terrains and are more flexible than 4-wheeler. They are also lighter. However, they're prone to punctures, so you'll need to keep a repair kit, spare tube and pump in your bag.
Our top 3-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. According to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels, which, she says "perform well on grass, gravel roads and market town cobbles" and are able to go up or down kerbs. They also come with a suspension system that in her words "smoothes out bumps extremely effectively".
Buggies with larger wheels can be quite wide and can be difficult to fit into tight spaces. This can be a problem if you use it for jogging or have to squeeze through doorways that are narrow while traveling. Luckily, most models have compact folding options that let you take off the front wheels for more compact storage.
Easy to manoeuvre
One of the primary benefits to a three-wheeled buggy is that it's much easier to maneuver particularly with a child on the way. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels can be turned on a dime and are easy to navigate, making them ideal for terrains that are difficult, such as parks, cobblestones, bumpy roads, and dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3-wheeler with her toddler and newborn and stated: "The Terrain was a pleasure to navigate over the rough ground and the swivel front wheel being particularly helpful. I was also amazed by the way it handled kerbs with the hand-operated break. I found it to be extremely steady when I was driving downhill or over uneven ground."
The only downside to this incredible maneuverability is that the larger wheels of the 3 wheel buggy can sometimes make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something you need to be aware of if your home area is one of the cities. If this is an issue then a four-wheeled buggy might be the better option for you.
