1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have tested. They feature motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model), they use smart mapping to produce precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like furniture legs. They also come with a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet in order to get it clean quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in removing dog hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.
It's still a good deal particularly if your office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work, or at school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This high-performing mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it will learn the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is ideal for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot automatic vacuum cleaner and mop/mop that could clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of rooms and floors with various flooring types, such as certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With a sleek circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the boxes, this mop and robot vacuums that mop vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our tests. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit costly, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some additional cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and dry mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with how dirty they are.
For larger houses it's recommended to choose one with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home using the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you own a large furniture. Also a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you'd expect from its price tag. It vacuums well, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also provides access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robot mop vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that is less intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
