Jurgi Camblong (born 15 March 1978) is a French molecular biologist and entrepreneur working in data-driven medicine. He co-founded Sophia Genetics, a Swiss data-driven medicine company, in 2011 and served as its chief executive officer from the company's inception until 1 July 2026, when he was succeeded by Ross Muken, previously the company's president. Camblong moved to the role of executive chairman, remaining a full-time executive with responsibility for technology innovation and long-term strategy. The transition followed a multi-year succession process overseen by the board and was confirmed to shareholders at the annual general meeting on 18 June 2026.
Early life and education
Camblong was born on 15 March 1978 in Bayonne, in the French Basque Country. He was schooled at an ikastola, an associative school where teaching is conducted in the Basque language.
In 2002 Camblong moved to Switzerland to begin a doctorate in biology at the University Medical Centre of the University of Geneva, publishing his thesis work in 2007. From 2008 to 2010 he continued his research at the University of Oxford before returning to settle in Switzerland. He subsequently completed an Executive MBA in management and technology, jointly awarded by the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and the University of Lausanne.
During this period Camblong worked as a molecular biologist, and was a co-author on papers concerning gene transcription published in Cell (2007), Nature (2009), Genes & Development (2009) and Science (2012).
Career
Founding Sophia Genetics (2011)
In 2011 Camblong founded Sophia Genetics with Dr Pierre Hutter and Prof Lars Steinmetz at the EPFL Innovation Park in Switzerland. The company works in data-driven medicine, and Camblong has served as its director since its founding. In 2015 the company opened its own offices at Saint-Sulpice, Switzerland, and it later opened further offices at Bidart in the French Basque Country and, in 2018, in Boston.
Under Camblong, Sophia Genetics developed an artificial-intelligence platform that turns patients' clinical, genomic and radiomic data into information intended to help clinicians diagnose cancer and rare hereditary disorders, monitor the progression of cancer and treatment response, and guide precision treatment. According to the dossier, under Camblong's leadership the company won innovation prizes and raised several hundred million US dollars across successive funding rounds.
Public listing (2021)
On 23 July 2021, Sophia Genetics listed on the stock market, and Camblong rang the opening bell on Wall Street to mark the occasion. The company's global headquarters moved to Rolle, Switzerland, that same year.
Public advisory role
Camblong served as a member of the Swiss government's "Digital Transformation" advisory body.
Distinctions
In 2017, Camblong received the Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year award from the audit firm EY.
Assessment
Camblong led the company he co-founded for fifteen years, from a Swiss start-up to a listing on the Nasdaq, and handed over to an internal successor through a planned process rather than under pressure. The French-language source material available for this article predates that handover and describes him as still in post.
Camblong took a research career in molecular biology, including publications in Cell, Nature, Genes & Development and Science, into the co-founding and leadership of a data-driven medicine company that grew from an EPFL start-up into an internationally listed business, with offices in Switzerland, France and the United States and a stock market listing in 2021. He was recognised by EY as an emerging entrepreneur in 2017 and was drawn into Swiss government advisory work on digital transformation. The available dossier does not record any public controversy or adverse assessment of Camblong himself.
