José Vicente de los Mozos Obispo (born 15 October 1962) is a Spanish engineer and business executive. De los Mozos has been president of the executive committee of IFEMA since June 2021, and was chief executive officer of Indra Sistemas from May 2023 to May 2026. Before that, he spent more than four decades inside the Renault Group, rising from an apprentice at its Valladolid factory to president of Renault España and, later, an executive vice president of the worldwide group.
In February 2022 the Spanish government awarded de los Mozos the Gran Cruz de la Orden de Isabel la Católica. He also received the Premio al Espíritu de Empresa from the Franco-Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2018 and was named an adoptive son of Palencia in 2015.
Early life and education
De los Mozos was born on 15 October 1962 in São Paulo, Brazil, where his father had emigrated to work at a General Motors factory. The family returned to Spain, settling in Valladolid after his father found a position in the tool and die shop of the Renault factory there. De los Mozos was educated at the Colegio San Agustín in Valladolid, where he completed his basic schooling, before joining FASA-Renault as an apprentice in 1978. De los Mozos then studied aeronautical engineering at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and subsequently joined the group of engineer-managers at the company's body and assembly plant in Valladolid.
Career
Early roles at Renault, 1978 to 2003
In 1993, de los Mozos moved to Paris to take up several positions of responsibility within Renault's engineering directorate. De los Mozos later returned to Spain, where he was named head of the stamping department at the same Valladolid plant, and subsequently took responsibility for the sheet metal and stamping departments at Renault's factory in Palencia.
Nissan and Ficosa, 2003 to 2009
In 2003, de los Mozos moved to Barcelona to work for Nissan Motor Ibérica as deputy to its industrial director. He was named director of Nissan Motor two years later, and from 2006 held the vice presidency of the company, overseeing all of Nissan's industrial operations in Spain. In September 2008, de los Mozos left Nissan to become general manager of the automotive division of Ficosa, a Spanish supplier of automotive parts.
Return to Renault and group leadership, 2009 to 2019
De los Mozos returned to Renault in October 2009 as director of vehicle manufacturing for the group. De los Mozos was named president and chief executive of Renault España in January 2012, adding the role of director of manufacturing and logistics for Europe in March 2013. That September, de los Mozos was named director of manufacturing and logistics for the group as a whole, president of the board of Renault España, and a member of its executive committee.
In September 2016, de los Mozos was put in charge of the group's health, safety and environment department. De los Mozos was named executive vice president adjunct of the Renault-Nissan Alliance and worldwide director of manufacturing and logistics for the group in April 2018, and in the same month became president of the Spanish carmakers' association ANFAC, where he promoted the shift towards sustainable mobility. Following the removal of Carlos Ghosn amid fraud and tax-evasion charges in Japan, de los Mozos was named the group's worldwide deputy general director in October 2019.
IFEMA and departure from Renault, 2021 to 2023
De los Mozos took on the additional post of president of the executive committee of IFEMA in June 2021, succeeding Clemente González Soler. De los Mozos left all of his positions within the Renault Group on 15 January 2023.
Chief executive of Indra Sistemas, 2023 to 2026
On 18 May 2023, de los Mozos was named chief executive officer of Indra Sistemas, a Spanish information technology, transport and defence company listed on the Bolsa de Madrid. He held the post until May 2026, when he was succeeded by Josep Maria Recasens.
Assessment
De los Mozos built an unusually long and continuous career inside a single industrial group, moving from an apprenticeship on the shop floor at Valladolid to worldwide responsibility for Renault's manufacturing and logistics operations, with an interlude of several years at Nissan and Ficosa that broadened his experience beyond a single manufacturer. His steady rise through progressively senior industrial, and later health and safety and alliance-wide, roles, together with his presidency of ANFAC and his state honour in 2022, point to sustained standing within the Spanish automotive sector across more than four decades.
His move to Indra Sistemas in 2023 marked a break from that record: after decades in car manufacturing, de los Mozos took charge of a company whose main business, information technology, transport systems and defence, lay outside the industry in which he had built his career. The available material does not explain the circumstances of his appointment there or of his departure three years later, and offers no detailed account of his specific record as Indra's chief executive, so no rounded judgement of that final chapter can honestly be drawn from it.
